Christensen Arms’ CA-15 G2 series of modern sporting rifles is feature-rich, utilizing CA’s trademark carbon fiber in critical components to reduce weight and increase structural integrity. This is particularly relevant to AR15-type rifles such as these, which tend to be front-heavy due to the use of long, heavy, metal handguards. Barrel mass is also a consideration; in a traditional AR15-type rifle, the shooter must balance their desired muzzle velocity with the weight that will be imparted by a longer, heavy-contour steel barrel. The CA-15 series, in general, alleviates this issue by offering models with a composite barrel (button-rifled, 416R stainless steel, wrapped in Aerograde carbon fiber). The result is a target-contour barrel that weighs considerably less than shorter, all-steel barrels of the same (or even thinner) contour. These features yield a light-weight, high-precision semi-automatic rifle which is, in the case of the G2 series, available from the factory chambered in .223 Wylde, enabling the safe use of 5.56x45mm NATO and .223 Remington ammunition. All G2 rifles have a sub-MOA guarantee.
In the CA-15 G2 series, Christensen seems to have satisfied a checklist of features that they felt were important in an AR15-type rifle, such as:
- match-grade trigger (breaks at 3.5 – 4.5 lbs.)
- Black Nitride finish applied to the bolt carrier group
- Receiver made of 7075 aluminum
- Adjustable butt stock (BCM Gunfighter)
- Slim-profile handguard, made of Aerograde carbon fiber, available in KeyMod or M-Lok
- Match-reamed barrel chamber
- Button-rifled, 416R stainless steel barrel or barrel insert
- Threaded muzzle (1/2″ x 28 tpi)
- Flash-hider (stainless steel on the all-steel barrel versions; titanium on the CF/Steel barrel versions)
